Care Home

A residential setting where a number of older people live, usually in single rooms, with communal day areas. All care and hotel services are provided 24 hours a day. Care homes tend to provide care to people who are more dependent on help.

All homes in England, Scotland and Wales are known as 'care homes', but are registered to provide different levels of care. A home registered simply as a care home providing personal care will provide personal care only - help with washing, dressing and giving medication. A "with nursing" care home, provides all the above services but with the added support provided by qualified nursing staff.
